Otumfuo is Father for All: Speaker Bagbin Hails Him for Donating Kente Cloths to Beautify Parliament Chamber

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has thanked Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his generous donation of historic Kente cloths to adorn the refurbished Parliament Chamber.
Hailing the Asantehene as a “father for all,” Bagbin credited Otumfuo’s guidance as instrumental in his leadership of the recent Parliaments.
The donation includes two culturally significant cloths namely Adwinie si Adwinie so (Wisdom upon Wisdom), symbolizing thoughtful governance, and Fatia Fata Nkrumah, representing unity and Pan-African cooperation. This gesture reinforces the vital connection between the Manhyia Palace and Ghana’s democratic institutions, infusing the chamber with deep cultural meaning.
Basis
The gift was prompted by a courtesy visit from the Speaker to the Manhyia Palace on October 15, 2025.
During this visit, Speaker Bagbin officially requested new Kente cloths to replace the originals that the Asantehene gifted for the opening of Parliament House in January 1993, which marked the beginning of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
The old cloths had worn out and were being removed as part of the renovation project in the Parliamentary Chamber.
In response, the Asantehene promptly directed his Mpaboahene to oversee the immediate replacement of the cloths.
Significance
The significance of this gift extends beyond being a cultural artifact, as it serves as a symbolic reminder to Parliament of the values of wisdom, unity, and cultural pride that should underpin their service to the nation.
