Otumfuo Confirms State Visit to India

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has announced his intention to undertake a state visit to India, following two prior invitations from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the most recent of which was extended in July.
The King declared his plans during a send-off ceremony he hosted at the Manhyia Palace on October 5, 2025, for Ghana’s new High Commissioner to India, Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, a former Vice-Chancellor of KNUST . Otumfuo stated, “I will go there during his tenure… I have given him my word that with him going there, I will definitely be there. I will choose the right time”.
The event was graced by the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and his wife.
Assignment
As Chancellor of KNUST, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II charged the new High Commissioner with a crucial assignment: to leverage his position for Ghana’s benefit.
He underscored the potential for technological and agricultural advancement, instructing Prof. Obiri-Danso, “India has technology. Please, make sure that my university benefits. Make sure that Kumasi benefits. Make sure that Ghana benefits”.
Expressing his confidence, the Asantehene added that this directive was a formal charge and that he trusted the Professor would not let Ghana down.
