Otumfuo back from Scotland to rousing welcome

His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II returned to Kumasi last Saturday night from the United Kingdom to a rousing welcome from his subjects.

Otumfuo was in Scotland for the St. Andrews Africa Summit (SAASUM) on September 16 where he delivered the keynote address on , “ Traditional Leadership in a Modern Society.”

Discussions
While in Scotland, he also had discussions with the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of St Andrews University, Prof. Sally Mapstone on a possible collaboration between the university and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

London
The King later moved to London for some private engagements. While in London, Otumfuo was joined by hundreds of Asantes and other well-wishers to celebrate Awukudae.

Ecstasy
The welcome party at the Kumasi International Airport included chiefs, government and Manhyia Palace officials, and other members of the public. There was drumming and dancing from cultural troupes.

Immediately the King descended from the gangway of the aircraft that brought him from London, the crowd burst into jubilation. Shouts of, “Akwaaba, our King”, “King Solomon” and “ pillar of peace’ filled the air as a smiling Otumfuo went round to greet the chiefs and people.

Manhyia Palace
His convoy drove to the Manhyia Palace where he moved first to the residence of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III to greet her.

A group of women sang and danced to some traditional songs. Otumfuo later retired to his residence inside the palace.
