NPP will state position on OSP exoneration of ‘Govt Official 1’ Mahama in Airbus Scandal – Justin Kodua

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is studying the report of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which exonerated former President John Dramani Mahama and his brother, Samuel Adam Mahama also known as Forson of any wrongdoing in the Airbus scandal.

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, at a news conference in Accra on Thursday, August 8, unmasked the former President as the Government Official 1 mentioned in the UK court in the Airbus scandal while his brother Foster is the Intermediary 5.

However the Special Prosecutor stated: “ The OSP investigation found no evidence that former President Mahama was involved or played any role in the procurement and maintenance of the agency relationship between Airbus and Foster and his associates in respect of the purchase by the Government of Ghana of military transport aircraft from Airbus.”

NPP will speak
But, in a terse statement on his Facebook page, NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong stated that, “ We are happy to know that the NDC recognizes state institutions as functional and credible.

May we see this same level of acceptance when another state institution declares the results after Dec 7. May God bless our home land Ghana and make her great and strong. The party is however studying the report by the OSP and will make a statement in due course.”

A-G can investigate
Meanwhile, the MP for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah Kubi has given an indication that the Attorney-General (A-G) could take up investigations into the airbus scandal.

Speaking on 3FM, he accused the OSP of lowering and undermining the process of prosecution.
“In the first place, the process of the investigation and prosecution did not even start well, and that’s how come we are here. The prosecution has been lowered and undermined and it does not augur well. I am disappointed”, he said.

He added: “ The Office of the Special Prosecutor is under the Attorney-General, and because his work has been unsatisfactory, we know that crime and legal prosecution have no time limitation, so the Attorney-General can also investigate and prosecute the case.”
