NPP sets record straight on Awutu Bereku shooting

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency in the Central Region has dismissed allegation leveled by the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) regarding a shooting incident at Awutu Bereku.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of some new chiefs as part of the Awubia festival.

Before the suspect’s arrest, the NDC, led by their parliamentary candidate Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, besieged the Kasoa Divisional Police Command, demanding justice.

They claimed the victim, Ato Odoom was an NDC member while the suspect was a bodyguard for the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson.

However, the NPP has described the claims as bogus and “propaganda” aimed at tarnishing the image of Mrs Koomson.

The NPP in a statement signed by the General Secretary, Michael Addy clarified that the victim, Ato Odoom, is a resident of Winneba in the Effutu Municipality and not a member of the NDC or NPP.

The NPP also denied claims that the suspect, Nai Akwasi Lartey, is the personal bodyguard of Mavis Hawa Koomson. The party added, Lartey is the boundary chief of Awutu Ofaakor and not a personal bodyguard of the MP and also took the victim to the hospital after the incident.
