NPP race: “I still believe in Dr. Bawumia’s ticket” – Freddie Blay

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, says he maintains confidence in Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership despite the party’s electoral defeat in 2024, but acknowledges that the future direction of the NPP will ultimately lie in the hands of delegates.

Speaking in a candid interview on AsaasePa 107.3 on Monday (16 June) Blay stressed that internal party reorganisation would be critical to the NPP’s survival and future success.

“I think Bawumia’s ticket is good. I still have faith in that,” he said.

“But if we reorganise things well, we will survive.”

Asked about the influence of other prominent figures within the party, including Kennedy Agyapong, Blay, who appeared measured in his response, acknowledging the legitimacy of different viewpoints within the NPP.

“Ken Agyapong has his own opinion, and of course, this is a contest. They have convinced themselves to serve,” he noted.

While reaffirming his personal support for Dr Bawumia, Mr Blay was quick to point out that the final decision would rest with the party’s delegates.

“When the time comes, delegates will decide,” he stated. “I think I will put my bet behind him, but I am talking as an individual.”

His comments add to ongoing debates within the NPP about leadership, direction, and unity as the party prepares for internal restructuring following its loss in the 2024 general elections.
