NPP Presidential Primary: Bawumia picks nomination forms
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has taken his quest to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 presidential election a step forward.
On Tuesday, May 30, he picked up nomination forms to contest the presidential primary. Two leading members of the party – a former Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power Authority, Fred Oware, and the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, Sammi Awuku, were at the party headquarters to pick up the forms on behalf of the Vice President. Mr Oware later handed over the forms to Dr Bawumia.
Dr Bawumia’s representatives indicated that he would communicate with the media after filing the form.
Nominations
The NPP opened nominations for its presidential primary on May 26. The exercise will close on Saturday, June 24, according to a press release issued by the party on Thursday, May 25.
Earlier pronouncements
The Vice President had in recent times, declared his intention to lead the party in the 2024 presidential polls, and therefore indicated on various platforms that he would pick up forms when nominations were opened for the primary.
At one of such occasion, on Monday, he told supporters of the NPP at Hohoe, “First of all, we are going to file for the flagbearership, which I’m going to do, win the flagbearership, break the 8, and go to Jubilee House. That is what I’m going to do.”
On Friday, May 26, a group known as the Bawumia Fan Club, had attempted to pick the forms for Dr Bawumia to contest the flagbearership position but they were stopped because the party said it had no authorisation from the Vice President to hand over the forms to them.
