Northern Region NDC in turmoil; Youth lock up party office

The Northern Regional Secretariat of the opposition National Democratic Congress ( NDC) is in turmoil with a youth group locking up the regional office.

The group known as Gbewaa Youth Group, is protesting against the arrest of the Regional Vice Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdul Hamid popularity known as Alhaji Gbewaa for allegedly assaulting the Regional Treasurer, Hajia Shamima Yakubu.

The police has been investigating the case after the regional treasurer lodged a complaint over the alleged assault. Shamima Yakubu sustained facial injuries after the alleged assault on Monday, January 14, 2024.

Resistance
The Communication Officer of the youth group, Mahama Haruna, insisted that they will resist any attempt by the party to sanction Alhaji Abdul.

He said the National Party Executives should be wary that most disagreements that had occurred in the party’s northern regional branch seem to be linked to Shamima Yakubu.

The youth group has warned that if Alhaji Abdul is not released immediately, they will lock up all NDC offices in the metropolis.

Alhaji Gbewaa is reported to have attacked Hajia Shamima Yakubu at the party’s regional secretariat after disagreements over party finances got heated.

The act resulted in the Northern Regional Treasurer sustaining injuries. She has since been treated and discharged from hospital, while the police continue investigation into the matter.
