NDC Supporters On Rampage; Attack State Institutions, Innocent Citizens

Supporters of the NDC have waged waves of attack on public and private properties across the country, in the aftermath of the party’s victory in the general elections.

The police appear helpless, forcing the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to deploy across the country and warning to respond appropriately where necessary.

A statement signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, the Director General of Public Relations, GAF, said, “Military personnel on authorized duty have the right to defend themselves, innocent civilians, and property.”

GPHA, Ghana Gas
On Tuesday, rampaging NDC youth stormed the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and the Ghana Gas head offices attempting to take over the offices. They were however stopped by armed soldiers who responded quickly to avert any damages to the two key state institutions.

Ursula’s residence
Police have also beefed up security at the residence of the Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, after NDC supporters attacked the residence.

Tepa attacks
Also in Tepa in the Ashanti Region, two campaign vehicles belonging to the Ahafo Ano North parliamentary candidate of the NPP and Director General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh were burnt by NDC supporters while a building belonging to the Tepa SHS was also burnt.

Metro Mass offices
In another attack, some NDC youth stormed the Metro Mass Transit workshop in Sunyani, Bono Region, to take over the operations.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Police said eight suspects were arrested. They are Issakah Taufiq, Abudu Isaiah, Abdul Latif Mohammed, Mohammed Azandoro, Alhassan Issah, Amadu Mohammed, Abdulai Adams, and Abdulai Ibrahim.

EC offices
In the Eastern Region, the Ayensuano District Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) in Asuboi was set ablaze by rampaging NDC youth individuals, destroying all materials used in the elections in the Ayensuano constituency.

Techiman police
The Techiman municipal police headquarters has also suffered massive destruction by NDC supporters.

Passport office
On Tuesday, distressed calls were sent to the police to go to the Passport Office near the Tema Station to protect lives and property as reports indicated that some NDC supporters were targeting to attack the place.
