My govt will establish processing plants in all crop-rich districts – Dr. Bawumia
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has promised to establish processing plants in all districts that have a competitive advantage in the cultivation of specific agricultural products.
This is part of his broad plan to enhance agriculture in the country.
The policy according to the NPP flagbearer, is to augment the district agricultural mechanization centers that will be established to provide access to mechanized equipment for farming to farmers.
Addressing stakeholders on day one of his tour in the Ashanti Region, on Monday, November 4, Dr. Bawumia assured that his government will make agriculture a priority.
“The number one priority of my government will be agriculture, the reason is that the majority of Ghanaians are farmers. Over 60% of the population are farmers, so if farmers are financially stable, Ghana will also prosper.
“I want to support farmers with finances, technologies, irrigation and expertise. Just like we did in the area of Planting for Food and Jobs, we want to continue in that regard. We will assist farmers who are into competitive crop cultivation with a processing facility.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia who is visiting his last region as part of his constituency-specific tours across the country, highlighted the importance of the Ashanti Region to the electoral victory of the NPP.
He outlined mining plans on his visit to Atwima Mponua, a mining community in the Ashanti Region.
“We will help miners to mine in a responsible manner. We will let the Geological Survey detect where the gold is located through their map so that they [miners] don’t try and error. We will license mining as well so that you are not harrassed to stop work, but will mine responsibly.”
