Mega event as Bawumia files nomination today
A mega event is expected at the Asylum Down headquarters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) today, Friday, June 16, as the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia files his nomination to contest for the party’s presidential primary.
From all indications, hordes of party kingpins including Ministers of State and other government appointees, MPs, and supporters will throng the venue of the event to show their support to the man who is highly tipped to emerge the flag bearer of the NPP for the 2024 presidential election.
Even before Vice President Bawumia officially declared his intention to contest for the position of flag bearer, the rank and file of the ruling party had urged him to go for the top position since he was the best card for the party in the next presidential election.
Preparation
Ahead of the filing of the nomination papers, the strong support base of the Vice President has been actively hyping the event especially, on social media.
Strategically, flyers with the catchphrase, “It is Possible” have inundated social media platforms announcing the big event today in Accra.
“ We, the party people have taken over his campaign, a clear indication of how strong his candidature is,” an adherent of the Bawumia Must Win (BMW), an advocacy group championing the Vice President’s preside ambition told The Thunder on Wednesday, June 14.
It is alleged that at least 120 Majority MPs support Dr Bawumia. Operational teams of the Bawumia candidature are also on the ground working to strengthen his support base.
Background
Vice President Bawumia, on May 30, 2023, picked flag bearer nomination forms to contest to lead the NPP in the 2024 presidential election.
A former Vice Chairman of the NPP, Fred Oware, supported by a former National Organiser of the party, Sammi Awuku picked the forms on behalf of Dr Bawumia.
