Media Personality Okatakyie Afrifa Released After Arrest

Ghanaian media personality Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah has been freed after his arrest by security operatives sparked nationwide condemnation, particularly from opposition leaders and press freedom advocates.
The “For the Records” host was taken into custody on Wednesday, March 19, under unclear circumstances, prompting the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to denounce the move as an assault on democracy.
Afrifa Mensah’s arrest stoked concerns about political intolerance and the shrinking space for free expression in Ghana.
NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua called for his immediate release, describing the arrest as a threat to free speech.
Minority Leader and Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin also criticized the development, warning against using state security to intimidate government critics.
Meanwhile, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has paid a visit to former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, following a raid on his residence by National Security operatives.
Reports indicate that heavily armed operatives stormed his roman Ridge property, disabled the CCTV system, and conducted a thorough search, allegedly looking for hidden vaults.
