May Allah grant you strength to bear loss of your beloved wife – Chief Imam, Mahama console Kufuor
More people and groups continue to commiserate with former President John Agyekum Kufuor on the passing of his wife, Theresa Kufuor.
Among the latest to express his sympathies with Mr Kufuor is the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
On Thursday, October 5, 2023, the 104 year-old Muslim cleric led a delegation of Muslim leaders to pay a visit to the former President in his house at Peduase near Aburi following the death of the former First Lady. The Muslim delegation included leadership of all the Islamic sects in the country, the Council of Zongo Chiefs and Heads of tribal Chiefs.
Chief Imam prays The National Chief Imam offered prayers for Mr Kufuor and his family. He prayed that Allah grants the former President the strength to bear the loss of his beloved wife.
Tribute
A tribute by the National Chief Imam and his delegation in memory of Mrs. Kufuor was read and symbolically presented to the former President.
The tribute praised the late former First Lady for the good name she left behind. They recalled her calmness and the national reverence she earned while serving as First Lady as well as her dignified life after office.
Appreciation President Kufuor, surrounded by his children, grandchildren, family members and other guests including the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei Opare, expressed great appreciation to the National Chief Imam and the delegation for the visit and kind words about his beloved wife.
Earlier on Wednesday, former President John Dramani Mahama led a delegation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to mourn with him on the death of his wife.
With Mr. Mahama were his wife, Lordina Mahama; the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the Chairman of the NDC Council of Elders, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, among others.
Mr. Mahama said, “We are all saddened by the passing of our respected mother, former First Lady Madam Theresa Kufuor. She carried herself with dignity and was truly acknowledged by the people of Ghana as the mother of the Nation. “On this sad occasion, our hearts go out to the widower, President Agyekum Kufuor, and the entire family. May God grant her peaceful repose.”

Responding, Mr Kufuor said he was touched and very honoured that in spite of their, political differences, the former President and the NDC delegation found time to mourn with him.
