Vice President,Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has received overwhelming endorsement of his NPP presidential candidature in the Manhyia South constituency.
With the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka Napo, and the constituency chairman of the party, Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori Atta aka Tom Tom leading the charge, the entire constituency threw its weight behind the Vice President’s bid to become the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.
Dr Bawumia was in the constituency to meet with delegates Thursday, July 6, on the first day of his 11-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region.
The atmosphere was charged when Dr Bawumia, the leading flag bearer aspirant entered the fully packed Ash Town CAC where the meeting took place. Party leaders chanted his name as he responded with a clenched fist.
Breaking the 8
The Vice President re-stated that he is the best man to lead the NPP to break the 8 year election cycle in the 4th Republic. He stated that he is the most experienced candidate in the race and appealed to delegates to fully support his candidacy.
Dr Bawumia said there is no question about the sacrifices he has made for the NPP. Making reference to the 2016 presidential election petition, he said when many party leaders feared to testify in the Supreme Court, he sacrificed his all to fight for the cause of the party.
He said at the time he was sacrificing for the party in the Supreme Court, no one said it was his time, “but now they are saying it.”
Napo endorses Bawumia
While endorsing Dr Bawumia as the best candidate to lead the NPP, Dr Opoku Prempeh who is also the Minister of Energy, explained that the Vice President had stood for the NPP in even very difficult times , and therefore deserves to not only be the presidential candidate but also the President of the nation.
“Here is a man who in the rain, sun, night and day has given his everything to our party , and I am assuring him that we in Manhyia South will not turn our backs at him, “ Dr Opoku Prempeh said to rapturous applause from the crowd
Talking about relations, Dr Opoku Prempeh said by extension, Dr Bawumia is his father . “Otumfuo says Dr Bawumia is his son, and Dr Bawumia also says Otumfuo is his father. And once Otumfuo is my grandfather , it goes to say that the Vice President is my father, so if my father is looking for something, I, as MP for Manhyia will fully support him in that respect,” he stated .
