Mahama weeps over NPP inroads into Volta Region

Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, is worried about the threat posed by the NPP in the Volta Region.

He said it is a fact that the NPP is making inroads into the Volta Region, considered the stronghold of the NDC.

Speaking at Juapong in the North Tongu constituency on Tuesday, August 13, during the first day of his tour of the region, the former President noted that, the appreciation of NPP votes in the region, which is considered the stronghold of the NDC, is not a good sign for the main opposition party.
“In Rawlings time, NPP used to get single digit in Volta Region . They have climbed and climbed and climbed and in 2020, they got 14%. And so it means that they are making inroads into the Volta Region,“ he stated.

Election Results
In the 2016 elections, Nana Akufo-Addo had 60,802 votes (10.8%) in the Volta Region with John Mahama garnering 493,141 votes (87.7%). And in the 2020 elections, Nana Akufo-Addo had 101,084 votes (14.1%) in the Volta Region, a gain of 3.3% while John Mahama had 606,424 votes (84.8%), a loss of 2.9% over the 2016 results.

Causes
But, instead of admitting the poor performance of the NDC in government , as a gainst the good works of the NPP in government, the former President rather said the NPP improved performance in the Volta Region is as a result of propaganda.

Although available records show that the NPP has outperformed the NDC in the delivery of infrastructure projects in sectors including roads, education and health among others in the Volta Region, Mr Mahama disingeneously told the gathering that the region only sees projects when NDC is in power.
