Mahama under pressure for disrespecting Northern Chiefs

Questions are being raised as to why the flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama failed to pay homage to the chiefs of the Northern Region before the launch of the party’s campaign in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.

Some political actors described the behaviour of the former President and his party as disrespect to traditional authority.

They made reference to NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who pays courtesy calls on chiefs in every community he visits before embarking on his campaign.

Apologize
Commenting on the development, a former Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, said it will be appropriate for the former President to apologize to the chiefs for disrespecting them.

He questioned how a national programme of a party can be organised in a region without informing the traditional authorities who own the land. “It was total disrespect to the chiefs in the north,” Duncan said on Peace Fm.

“Mr Mahama, you went to launch your national campaign, I never saw any visit to any of the paramountcies in the five Northern Regions. Clearly, you want to take them for granted.”
