Mahama, NDC, Captain Smart Blamed For Obuasi Bloody Galamsey Incident

Ghanaians have ‘roasted’ President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC and Captain Smart for being the cause of last Saturday’s bloody incident at Obuasi, which led to the killing of nine illegal miners and injuries to others.

The galamsey operators, all NDC supporters, breached the concession of the mining giant, AngloGold Ashanti at Obuasi.

Reports indicate that the over 60 galamseyers, some armed with pump action guns and other implements, entered one of the shafts of Anglogold and clashed with the armed soldiers leading to the deaths.

The Ghana Armed Forces said the illegal miners opened fire on their men who responded in self defence.

Blame Mahama, NDC
Many Ghanaians have apportioned blame to President Mahama, his party and Onua TV broadcaster Captain Smart for the bloody incident.

For President Mahama, many people think he had failed to act to stop NDC supporters from the post-election violence. Mr Mahama had looked on unconcerned while NDC hoodlums unleash attacks on institutions and individuals.

The Director of Communications of the NPP, Richard Ahiagba, said, “President Mahama and the NDC should be held responsible for the violence.”

He said the NDC promised their supporters that they would be allowed to do galamsey if they won the elections, and they had clearly put the promise into action.

Captain Smart
The broadcaster has been lambasted for using the Tv station to incite NDC supporters to overlook the presence of soldiers at the Obuasi mine and go inside the mines to do galamsey.

Ras Mubarak, a former NDC MP took a serious view of Captain Smart’s behaviour. “Place the blame of the very unfortunate events in Obuasi squarely at the doorsteps of Onua TV which allowed its platform to be used to incite violence by one of its staff,” he wrote on his social media handles.

“We’ve come a long way and must not, in the name of free speech allow media houses to be used as vessels to incite violence. We can’t live in a country with such wanton indiscipline.

“Thuggery and any other acts of lawlessness must have no place in the Ghana we all want. We sit aloof at our own peril,” the former MP stated.
