Mahama Ayariga commits to enacting laws against disinformation

Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Chair of the Independent Constitutional Bodies Committee, Mahama Ayariga, has expressed the committee’s commitment to ensuring legislation is passed to combat disinformation, which he described as a threat to Ghana’s democracy.
He expressed concern about the menace of disinformation, which also contributed to the lingering ethnic conflicts in Bawku and its enclave.
“Cybersecurity, information management, and disinformation are a result of some of these that he’s going to track, these things fuel the Bawku conflict.
“We should work to have at least the Traffic Bill modelled along what we have experienced in Europe, America, and all other countries. And let us as Parliament, push it and try and get our executives on board to speed up the process of enacting the legislation, that is a major thing we should seek to achieve as a committee,” he said.
