Kotoko beat Nsoatreman to lift J.A. Kufuor cup
Kumasi Asante Kotoko lifted the J.A Kufuor Cup with a 2-1 victory over Nsoatreman FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
The match played to honour former President J.A. Kufuor saw Kotoko coming back from a goal down to score twice through Steven Mukwala and Peter Amidu to carry the trophy.
Lead
After the inspection of the teams by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah supported by the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, Nsoatreman showed more seriousness in the game and deservedly took the lead in the first half through Abdul Rahman.
Kotoko fought back fiercely in the second half and leveled the score through Steven Mukwala, who connected from the corner.
Wasted penalty
Determined to win the day, Coach Maxwell Konadu’s side were awarded a penalty but Fredrick Asare in post for Kotoko saved from Abdul Manaf Umar.
With Richmond Lamptey perfectly directing affairs from the middle , Kotoko went ahead with the second goal when Peter Amidu was set up by Lamptey in the 67th minute.
