Komfo Anokye CEO removal sparks outcry from Asante Youth Association

A traditional youth group, the Asante Youth Association, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to rescind his decision to replace Dr. Otchere Addai-Mensah as Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The group has expressed its dissatisfaction with the removal of Dr. Addai-Mensah, citing that the decision could affect the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye’ project, an initiative spearheaded by Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to renovate major facilities at the hospital.

The group has also called on the board chairman of the hospital to put on hold the inauguration of a new CEO for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

A letter from the presidency on Monday, May 5, indicates that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Paa Kwasi Baidoo, has been appointed as the new CEO of the hospital.

Addressing journalists in Kumasi, Vice President of the Asante Youth Association, Nana Oppong Boadi, stated that the healthcare system in the region should not be politicised.

“…If all of a sudden Addai-Mensah is put aside, it will retard the progress of Komfo Anokye and because of this that is why we are saying no to the decision.

“We want the President to rescind that decision, and the information provided to us purports that the President is not aware, but these cabal in government are trying to do this against Asante, and we do not want that to happen. This is about health, and Addai-Mensah has exhibited professionalism as a CEO,” he urged.
