Klottey Korle MP Encourages Youth to Uphold National Peace

The Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has called on young people in Ghana not to allow themselves to be used as tools to undermine national peace.

Speaking at the National Youth Conference organised by the National Youth Authority in Gomoa Fetteh, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings urged both students and youth participants to reject incitement by those who make “reckless statements”.

“Do not allow anyone to lead you into disrupting the future you have the potential to create,” she said in her keynote address.

She emphasised that Ghana’s development depends on embracing its diverse strengths, and cautioned against individuals whether politicians, traditional leaders, religious figures, academics, or others who seek to advance their own interests at the expense of national unity.

“The peace we are enjoying should not be taken for granted or jeopardised by anyone who puts personal gain above the collective good,” she added.

Sharing his thoughts during a breakout session on Girls and Young Women’s Participation in Political Leadership at the same event, the country director for Plan International Ghana, Constant Tchona emphasised the need for a collective national effort to break down entrenched inequalities that prevent girls and young women from fully engaging in political processes.

“This is an opportunity to confront head-on the systemic barriers that young women face in politics and leadership,” he said.

Adding, “we must examine how we can, as a collective, dismantle those barriers to create an environment that truly values and amplifies their contributions.”

The National Youth Conference was on the theme, Igniting Potentials, Inspiring Change.
