Ken Agyapong vows support for TESCON, calls for empowerment

A Flag bearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2023 presidential primary, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has advocated the granting of voting rights to executives of all branches of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), the student wing of the party, across the country to participate in the internal elections of the party.
This, he said, would significantly enhance the participation of more youth in the internal electoral process of the NPP.
Mr Agyapong, a former NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central in the Central Region, said this in response to suggestions made along the same line at the freshers’ orientation and general meeting of the TESCON branch of the College of Health and Well-Being in Kintampo in the Bono East Region last Saturday.
The TESCON members at the meeting had suggested that the voting rights of TESCON executives should be increased from two to five per institution across the country.
The NPP Stalwart also affirmed his support for the expansion of the electoral college of the party to include more members in a manner that protected the integrity of the party’s structures
This, he said, would engender a sense of ownership, avert apathy and enhance democracy.
Pledge/Gratitude
Speaking at the meeting, Mr Agyapong pledged to fund all branches of the TESCON across the country and donated an undisclosed amount of money to support the group’s activities.
He also called on senior members of the NPP and former government appointees to liaise with and empower TESCON to make the party more attractive on the campuses of tertiary institutions and enhance the party’s acceptability among the youth.
“I’m committed to supporting TESCON, and I urge senior members of the NPP to empower them,” he said.
He expressed his profound gratitude to the students for their dedicated services and loyalty to the NPP over the years and challenged them to do more as the party rebuilt to recapture power in 2028.
The former lawmaker assured TESCON of his unflinching support given their vital role in youth mobilisation and projecting the party on various platforms.
Mr Agyapong, who also addressed TESCON members at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani in the Bono Region, on the same day, reiterated his commitment to that branch as well.
