Ken Agyapong dragged to NPP disciplinary committee over “showdown“ comment directed at President, VP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is to summon a flag bearer aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong before its disciplinary committee over alleged threats and accusations he directed towards President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the party’s Special Delegates Conference on Saturday.

A statement signed by the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong on Sunday, said four other persons will be summoned before the party’s disciplinary committee for misconduct during the polls.

Allegations
A widely circulated video featured a furious Mr Agyapong, who is also the Member of Parliament for Assin Central threatening the first and second gentlemen of the land over an allegation of attacks on his agents during the polls.

He shouted out, “President Akufo-Addo, I will give you a showdown in this country, I swear to God. Vice President, I will give you a showdown for chasing my agent away. I swear to God. You will hear what will happen here. I swear to God, I will challenge President Akufo-Addo big time.”

Party’s position
The statement issued by the party stated that Mr Agyapong will be summoned before the Disciplinary Committee to explain his threats. Ii said, “Pursuant to Article 10(7)(5) of the NPP Constitution, certain individuals namely: Mr. Raphael Patrick Sarfo, Mr. Charles Dokyi Yaw-Addo, Mr. Musa Sulemana and Mr. Hopeson Yaovi Adorye will be referred to the Party’s Disciplinary Committee.

“This is a direct response to evidence, including video and photographic materials, which suggests potential violations of the provisions outlined in Article 3(5)(A) of the Party’s Constitution and potential misconduct under Article 4(7).”

The statement added: “Emphasis must also be placed on the fact that Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, pursuant to the above-mentioned constitutional provisions, will also be summoned before the Disciplinary Committee of the Party to provide responses and further details to the accusations and threats he made against certain personalities in a video that has since gone viral on social media and mainstream media.”

Furthermore, the statement said the disciplinary process will be conducted with fairness, transparency and impartiality .

According to the statement , while majority of the polling centres experienced a smooth process, “we acknowledge that isolated incidents occurred in certain locations . The party leadership unequivocally condemn such acts and emphasizes our unwavering commitment to the integrity and fairness of the election process.”

Appreciation
Nevertheless, the party extended its gratitude to the aspirants and all other stakeholders for the successful execution of the polls.
