It is possible to break the 8 – Veep

The Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia says it is possible for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to retain power in the 2024 general elections.

For him, the work that the NPP has done since 2017 was enough to enable it win power to continue with governance.

Speaking at Mpraeso in the Eastern Region on Saturday morning at the end of a health walk as part of activities marking this year’s Kwahu Easter, the Vice President said the NPP’s record far outweigh that of other political parties trying to wrestle power from them in the 2024 general elections.

He said in terms of educational and road infrastructure, the party’s record stand tall, hence Ghanaians will not allow deceptions from other political parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win their votes.

Dr Bawumia challenged the NDC to point out one transformational project that the party did during its tenure in office.

The General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong who also addressed the party members said any candidate that the party will present will be able to beat John Mahama if he is elected as the NDC’s flagbearer.

He said the NPP government was committed to ensuring that the country’s economic difficulties are resolved in order to put back smiles on the faces of Ģhanaians.

“NPP is one family with a common destiny so respect each other’s views,” he said, urging the party members to keep away from things that will cause the party not to break the 8.

For his part, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, asked the party members to work together to ensure that the NPP breaks the 8 at the 2024 general elections.

The NPP, from a ‘Four More to do More!’ slogan during the 2020 campaign, has latched unto a ‘Breaking the 8’ slogan ahead in its quest to throw a spanner in the works of the two-term tradition and clinch a third term.

The NDC in 2000, the NPP in 2008 and the NDC in 2016 all mounted spirited campaigns to ‘Break the 8’ but failed to do so.

According to Mr. Opoku, it was through unity and togetherness that the party would be able to break the 8 in 2024 general elections.

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, Jeff Konadu said the governing NPP had done a lot to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians, hence it would be wrong if some people claim they have not seen anything.

The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Frank Annor-Dompreh who also joined the health walk said Vice President Bawumia was a blessing to the country.

For him, Dr Bawumia is the right candidate to lead the NPP after the expiration of President Akufo-Addo’s term.
