Israel-Iran War Forces Gov’t to Suspend Dumsor Levy

The Israel-Iran war has forced the government to suspend the implementation of the controversial GHc1 dumsor levy.
The levy was due to take effect today June 16, under the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025, which aims to raise funds to clear energy-sector debt.
But, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) issued a statement suspending the implementation of the levy.
Mahama concern
Earlier, President John Dramani Mahama expressed concern that the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran could drive up fuel prices in Ghana.
Speaking during his thank-you tour of the Savannah Region on Saturday, June 14, the President acknowledged Ghana’s economic progress but cautioned that the country remains vulnerable to external shocks.
Directives
In response to rising global crude oil prices triggered by recent missile exchanges, President Mahama has directed the Ministers of Energy and Finance to develop strategies to safeguard recent reductions in petroleum prices.
“While we have made strides in stabilizing the economy, Ghana is not immune to global disruptions,” he stated.
He emphasized the need for the ministers to assess the economic implications of surging crude oil prices and propose measures to mitigate potential hardships for Ghanaians.
“I have instructed the Finance and Energy Ministers to closely monitor developments, evaluate the impact on fuel prices, and implement policies to preserve the progress we’ve achieved,” he affirmed.
