I’m not going independent – Ken Agyapong

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has refuted reports that he has resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to go independent ahead of the 2024 elections.

“I’m not selfish. People have come to me several times telling me to go independent but I have refused. I think that is not the wise thing to do.”

Addressing some friends and party faithful during his 64th birthday celebration on Sunday (16 June), Agyapong called on the supporters of the NPP to forge a united front to enable the party to “break the 8” come 7 December polls.

“All I want the party faithful to know is that I have not resigned from the party [NPP]. I am not going independent. I’m still an NPP member. No matter what happened at the primaries, I think we are all party people [and] it’s time for all of us to come together,” Agyapong said.

He also appealed to supporters of the vice-president to desist from intimidating his sympathisers adding that there is no need to exhibit such divisions in the party.

“So, I’m pleading with my supporters to use my birthday to reconcile … we have finished the primaries, the vice-president has won, therefore, there are no Ken Agyapong supporters [and] no vice-president [Bawumia] supporters.”
