‘Ignore Kevin Taylor’s Lies On A Supposed $150M Contract Benefitting Energy Minister And NPP’
The Ministry of Energy has rubbished allegations by Kevin Taylor that the sector Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and the NPP 2024 campaign stand to benefit to the tune of $150 million in a supposed contract involving Tullow, Kosmos, GNPC and Petro SA.
Responding to the allegation, which had gone viral, the Ministry said, consistent with Kelvin Taylor’s discredited effusions, he was unable to provide details of the said contract, apart from puting out lies to tarnish hard won reputations.
Ministry’s role
A statement signed by Kofi Abrefa Afena, Communications Specialist/Press Aide to the Energy Minister, gave some details about the Ministry’s role in the subject matter of contracting in the Ghanaian upstream petroleum sector.
“The Ministry of Energy is not responsible for the signing and approval of contracts in Ghana’s upstream petroleum space and therefore matters of signing and approval of contracts involving Tullow and its partners mentioned will certainly not require the approval of the Ministry. Just a little research could have avoided this embarrassment, “ the statement said.
Legal action
The statement hinted of a legal action to be taken against Kevin Taylor by the Energy Minister. “In the plain reputational onslaught the said Kevin Taylor mounts on Dr. Prempeh, specifically impugning criminality on him, the Minister’s legal team will resort to the necessary legal remedy in due course.”
