Ibrahim Murtala Calls for Responsible Electronic Waste Management
Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, is demanding proper disposal of electronic waste, also known as E-Waste, in the country.
He said the wanton burning of electrical products harms the environment and affects human health.
Speaking to journalists after touring the Agbogbloshie Scrap Dealers, Murtala said measures will be put in place to find a proper way of disposing of such waste.
“We provided the collection center so that people wouldn’t be burning those, you know, used electrical items in the open. Because one, it is for your health, for your safety, your own life…I will tell you that we will give you something to take it so that you don’t burn.”
“We are helping to protect you from being exposed to those dangerous, you know, toxic substances. And also preventing you from subjecting other people to it. Because once you burn, people will be affected.
