AFCON Qualifier 2021: Black Stars leave for South Africa

The Black Stars will depart Accra for Johannesburg today 23 March 2021 for the match day five Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against South Africa.

Twenty players are currently in camp in Accra with six others expected to arrive from Europe. Baba Abdul Rahman, Mohammed Kudus, Osman Bukari, Nicholas Opoku, Emmanuel Lomotey and Kwasi Okyere Wriedt joined the rest of the squad Monday. Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori will also join his colleagues in Johannesburg Tuesday night, according to the Ghana FA.

Captain Andre Ayew, forward Jordan Ayew and midfielder Thomas Teye Partey who will not be part of the contingent to South Africa will join the squad later for the final game against Sao Tome and Principe. Ghana will play South Africa on Thursday 25 March in Johannesburg, before hosting Sao Tome and Principe in Accra.

The Black Stars sit at the top of Group C with 9 points after four games and are in search of a ticket to the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
