“He is Otumfuo, He is the King of my Tribe, we Treat him with Dignity” – Archbishop Duncan Williams

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, has expressed deep respect for Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, acknowledging his royal stature and cultural significance.
“He is Otumfuo, he is the King of my tribe. My father is Asante, and that is our King so we treat him with respect and dignity,” the Archbishop stated.
Speaking to his congregation, Duncan-Williams, whose father hails from Akomadan, shared a recent encounter with Otumfuo at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
A gesture of respect
“The other day, I met Asantehene at the airport. My protocol officer informed me that Nana was passing by, so I asked whether he was arriving or departing. When he confirmed that Otumfuo was leaving, I said, ‘As soon as he arrives, let me know.’”
The Archbishop emphasized that he was displeased when his protocol officer suggested that Otumfuo would come out to greet him.
“Come out and greet who?” Duncan-Williams recalled saying.
“I am the one who will go and meet him, he doesn’t have to come to me. He is Otumfuo.”
Turning to the congregation, he reiterated, “Did you hear the name I gave you? He is Otumfuo.”
Honour
The Archbishop concluded with a powerful reflection: “A society that fails to respect, celebrate, and honour its dignitaries will never progress.”
