Government calls on academics to align research with national goals

The government has urged academics and researchers to align their work with national priorities to make research more useful for development.

The call was made at the launch of a peer-reviewed academic journal, titled The Journal of Transformative and Development, by the Dambai College of Education.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Education, the Ministry’s Technical Advisor, Professor George K.T. Oduro, said many research publications fail to influence policy because they do not address the needs of the government.

He explained that focusing on priority areas in education and tailoring research to them would help the ministry achieve its targets.

“Academics and Researchers sometimes bemoan the disconnection between their publication and the interest of the government. Why is it so? It raises a question about how relevant academic research findings are to government priorities.

“To ensure that research becomes something that can be utilised by government, it is proposed that researchers must try to identify priority areas of the government and align their research towards helping the ministry achieve its targeted educational goals,” he stated.
