Gold Stars to face Asante Kotoko in 2025 Champion of Champions clash on August 31

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed Sunday, August 31, 2025, as the date for the 2025 Champion of Champions match, the traditional curtain-raiser to the Ghanaian football season.

This one-off fixture will mark the official kickoff of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign.

In accordance with Article 9 of the Premier League Regulations, the match will see reigning league champions Gold Stars lock horns with MTN FA Cup winners Asante Kotoko in a battle for early-season bragging rights and the season’s first piece of silverware.

Gold Stars earned their place in the fixture after making history by capturing their first-ever top-flight title during the 2024/25 season. Asante Kotoko, Ghana’s most decorated club, sealed their spot by triumphing in the 2025 MTN FA Cup, further adding to their storied legacy.

The Champion of Champions match not only symbolizes the start of a new football season but also offers fans a thrilling preview of the quality, rivalry, and excitement expected in the months ahead.

In last year’s edition, FC Samartex 1996 claimed the title after edging Nsoatreman FC 1-0 at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa, a match remembered for its competitiveness and intensity.

With two formidable sides set to meet, the 2025 Champion of Champions promises to deliver a captivating encounter as Gold Stars and Asante Kotoko aim to start the season on a high.
