Global partnerships key to Ghana’s reset agenda – President Mahama tells Envoys

President John Dramani Mahama has charged Ghana’s newly appointed envoys to leverage diplomacy in advancing his government’s reset agenda, which aims to restore hope, rebuild trust, and create sustainable prosperity.

Speaking at the orientation programme for the envoys in Accra on Monday, September 1, 2025, under the theme “Harnessing the Dividends of Diplomacy for Ghana’s Reset Agenda”, President Mahama underscored the critical role of foreign relations in achieving national transformation.

He explained that the reset agenda was born out of the economic crisis and erosion of public confidence that confronted Ghana prior to the 2024 elections.

“When Ghanaians gave us the mandate in 2024, they did so during an economic crisis, diminished trust in our government. Out of this challenge, we introduced a reset agenda to introduce a comprehensive plan to restore hope and reintroduce trust and rekindle prosperity,” the President said.

At the centre of the agenda, he said, is the creation of decent, dignified, and sustainable jobs for Ghanaians.

Key initiatives such as the 24-hour economy and the establishment of a women’s development bank are already underway.

However, President Mahama emphasised that the success of these initiatives will hinge on the partnerships cultivated abroad.

“The capital, technology, the market, and the knowledge that we attract will be decisive. That is why I am charging you, our envoys, to ensure that every engagement abroad translates into real opportunities for our people,” he told the diplomats.

The orientation brought together Ghana’s new ambassadors, high commissioners, and consuls-general, and forms part of the government’s efforts to align the country’s diplomatic mission with its economic transformation goals.
