Ghana will remain peaceful after December 7 elections — Okyenhene

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has stated that Ghana will remain peaceful after the December 7 general election, contrary to the views held by others that there would be chaos.

That, he indicated, was because the country had been successful in previous elections since 1992 without any chaos.

He explained that Ghana had been a big family where everyone considered his or her neighbour as a member of the family and would, therefore, not do anything untoward during elections.

Durbar
The Okyenhene was speaking at a durbar held in his honour to mark the 25th anniversary of his ascension to the Ofori Panin Stool at Asiakwa in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area in the Eastern Region.

The colourful event was organised by the Nifa Division of the traditional area and was attended by dignitaries from all walks of life.

This is the third durbar to be held in honour of Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin to mark his 25th anniversary after the Adonteng and Benkum Divisions organised theirs.

Some of the dignitaries included queenmothers, sub-chiefs, parliamentary aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Municipal Chief Executives for Abuakwa South and Abuakwa North, Akosua Asabea and Nana Kwame Ampofo respectively.

Right to vote
The Okyenhene stated that Ghanaians had demonstrated full commitment during elections and, therefore, urged the electorate to vote for the party they thought could help improve their socio-economic conditions.

He appealed to Ghanaians to go home immediately after casting their ballot and wait for counting and the announcement of the outcome.

“You rejoice when your party is victorious. However, if your party does not win, that is not the end of the world for you,” he said.

He said there would be no war after the elections because Ghanaians were peace-loving and peace would reign before, during and after the elections.

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his vision of educating every Ghanaian child. He urged parents to take advantage of that initiative and send their children to school.

He called on the government to bring more development projects to Asiakwa and its environs and employ school leavers in the area.

The Chief of Asiakwa who is also the Nifahene of Akyem Abuakwa, Daasebre Dr Twum Ampofo, praised the Okyehene for his vision of developing the traditional area.
