Ghana Makes Strides In Attaining SDGs – President Akufo-Addo
Ghana’s journey towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has seen notable strides, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said.
He mentioned particularly areas like access to safe drinking water, improved healthcare systems, and increased electrification rates as having achieved remarkable successes.
President Akufo-Addo said these in a speech at the SDGs Action Summit 2024 in Accra on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Free SHS & NHIS
Touching on the Free Senior High School ( SHS) policy and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the President said they have significantly advanced education and healthcare access. “These initiatives highlight our commitment to not only meeting, but also exceeding the SDGs targets through strategic and impactful policies,” he stated.
Challenges
In spite of the strides made, the President said, there is the need to acknowledge the areas where progress has lagged. “Challenges such as poverty reduction, climate change impacts, and economic inequalities persist, requiring urgent and innovative actions.”
On that score, he called for collaboration and partnership to accelerate national efforts. “By leveraging innovation, smart partnerships, and innovative financing, we can drive transformative change to end poverty, protect our planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all,” he added.
