Ghana leveraging on ties with China to promote investment in large scale mining – Jinapor

Ghana is committed to leveraging on the strong political and economic ties with China to promote investment in the large scale mining sector.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor who said this noted that under the distinguished leadership of President Akufo-Addo, the future of the mining industry look brighter.

Mr Jinapor made the point on Wednesday during an engagement with a select group of investors at the Chinese capital, Beijing, at a Roundtable organised in partnership with Central Merger Group, a global resource integration company, and Global Times, the largest English newspaper in China, to make a pitch for investment in the mining industry of Ghana.

Democratic credentials
Mr Jinapor reminded the investor community of Ghana’s democratic credentials, respect for the rule of law, strong institutional framework, robust regulatory structure, and the conducive environment that make businesses thrive.

Other activities
From Beijing, the Minister paid a working visit to Shandong Gold Group, the largest mining company in China and operators of the Cardinal Namdini Project in the Upper East Region, at their Head Office in the Jinan City of Shandong Province.

He held a strategic meeting with the senior leadership of the company, led by the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of Shandong Group, Mr. Hang Li.

Assurance
Shandong Gold Group assured the Minister of their commitment to pour the first gold at the Cardinal Namdini Project before the end of next year, 2024.

Mr Jinapor reiterated the government’s continuous support for the project, and urged the company to increase investment in Ghana and consider other projects including investment in value addition and domestic infrastructural development.

He also visited the Head Office of Shandong Heavy Industry Group, the parent company of SINOTRUCK, one of the global automobile companies with an assembly plant in Ghana, and held a meeting with its leadership.
The company is working to support Ghana’s mining industry through the manufacturing of heavy-duty mining equipment.
