Ghana and Qatar seal deals on jobs, trade, and travel ahead of presidential visit

Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is in Qatar on an official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani.

During the visit, both countries have held productive talks on strengthening diplomatic relations, boosting trade, deepening security cooperation, and collaborating on conflict mediation.

The discussions highlight their shared commitment to a multilateral, rule-based order anchored in peace and stability.

Key agreements reached include easing visa requirements to facilitate smoother movement of people and goods, and finalising a labour mobility agreement that will create job opportunities for thousands of skilled young Ghanaians.

To foster business partnerships, Ghana and Qatar will hold a Presidential Ghana-Qatar Business Forum during President John Mahama’s visit next month, aimed at strengthening trade and exploring joint investment opportunities.

The visit marks a renewed chapter in Ghana-Qatar relations, signalling strong prospects for economic, political, and social cooperation in the near future.
