Finance Minister Inaugurates Ghana Gold Board of Directors

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has inaugurated a 13-member Board of Directors for the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBoD).
At a brief swearing-in ceremony, Dr. Forson congratulated the newly appointed board members on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and expressed confidence in their ability to deliver on the mandate outlined in the Board’s founding legislation.
“This Board has a critical role to play in our broader economic strategy,” the Minister stated.
Dr. Forson also used the occasion to highlight recent improvements in Ghana’s currency performance, describing it as a sign of renewed economic momentum.
“As of May 13, 2025, the Ghana cedi has appreciated by 16.7 percent against the U.S. dollar since the start of the year,” he noted. “This is a sharp contrast to the 13.4 percent depreciation recorded during the same period in 2024. In April 2025, the cedi was ranked as the best-performing currency globally.”
He described the cedi’s strong performance as a “remarkable turnaround” and credited prudent policy, fiscal discipline, and growing investor confidence for the shift.
Dr. Forson added that the Ghana Gold Board’s operations will play a crucial role in sustaining this trajectory.
“The activities of GoldBoD stand to further strengthen this performance,” he said. “It will change how both the Ghana cedi and Ghana’s foreign exchange accumulation behave in the future.”
