Energy Minister to commission rural electrification projects on October 11

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced the completion of major rural electrification projects in 13 communities within the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region, as part of efforts to expand access to reliable electricity across the country.
John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, is scheduled to officially commission the electrification projects on Saturday, October 11, 2025, in the following beneficiary communities: Zomlampe, Nikpegu, Torope, Dokope, Kpatinyan, Darivogupe, Bagpe, Dawunipe, Diwurupe, Larigbani, Mammudupe, Sankaupe, and Nyinyape.
The projects fall under the government’s National Electrification Scheme aimed at improving energy access in underserved areas, fostering inclusive development, and enhancing the quality of life in rural communities.
In a statement ahead of the event, Minister Jinapor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equitable energy distribution across Ghana.
“Electricity is not just about lighting homes; it is about powering opportunity, driving enterprise, and transforming lives. Through projects like this, we are delivering on our promise to make energy the bedrock of Ghana’s green and inclusive development,” he said.
The commissioning ceremony is expected to bring together traditional authorities, opinion leaders, officials from the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO), representatives from the Central Gonja District Assembly, and community members.
The Ministry said the initiative reflects a broader national agenda to transition toward sustainable energy systems while ensuring no community is left behind in Ghana’s development journey.
