EC To Re-Open Voters Register For Transfers, Proxy And Special Voting Applications
The Electoral Commission (EC) will re-open the voters register from Wednesday July 3 to Friday July 5, 2024.
This will give prospective voters who could not transfer their votes during the first window, the opportunity to do so.
In addition it will allow for applications for proxy and special voting to be received. These decisions were reached at an Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Monday, July 1, 2024 at the EC head office in Accra.
Prisoners
It was agreed that during the period, the EC will allow inmates of the prisons, students and security personnel on the special duty list submitted to EC already, to transfer their votes into constituencies where they are residing presently.
In addition, prison inmates who do not have their names on the voters register, will be registered as part of the mop-up limited voter registration exercise from August 1 to 3, 2024.
Students
Applicants who are students, will be required to provide their student identification cards as proof before they are allowed to transfer their votes to campus. It was further agreed that students cannot transfer their votes from campus to other constituencies.
Party agents
Also agreed at the meeting was that political party agents will be permitted to observe the transfer process at the EC district offices and the 25 campuses where the just ended limited voter registration exercise took place.
In addition, political party agents will be permitted to observe the proxy process.
