Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh crowned Africa Role Model in Politics and Governance

The Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has been awarded the Overall Africa Role Model in Politics and Governance, by the Young Professionals and Youth Coalition (YPYC).

The award took place at the 14th MTN Pulse Africa Role Model Awards held the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi on Saturday, July 8.

This award is in recognition of his transformational and exemplary leadership as a public servant who has inspired young people to aspire to enter into the field of politics as a way of contributing positively to national development.

Furthermore, he was recognized as one of Africa’s most distinguished role models and transformational leaders in the corporate world, an elite listing of influential and inspiring leaders.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh , aka Napo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, thus joined the list of past award recipients in the category like former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings , John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama, and the Asantehene, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The YPYC is an organisation that seeks to steer young people in the right direction by empowering and educating them on the necessary tools and requirements needed to survive in the corporate world.

Golden fish
A citation accompanying the award said in part, “You are dexterous, tolerant, resolute and endowed with political far sightedness, a virtue not lost on your constituents and the public at large. A golden fish cannot be hidden”.

Selection
The President of YPYC, Andy Osei Okrah, explained that those who were awarded on the day were the finest selection of the most outstanding personalities who have truly excelled as transformational leaders and role models impacting society.
“The award winners are few and were carefully chosen on the back of several considerations”, he said.

Humbled
In his remarks, Dr. Opoku Prempeh said he was humbled by the life-time conferment, adding “it encourages me to continue to serve diligently, my country with all the energy I can muster.”

“I remain grateful to the almighty God for the resilience and fortitude in this journey. I also thank the organisers for the honour and recognition,” he added.
