Court Suspends Teshie Homowo Outdoor Events Following Fatal Violence

The Accra High Court, Criminal Division, has placed an injunction on all outdoor and public activities for this year’s Teshie Homowo Festival, except traditional rites, after violent clashes marred the celebration earlier this week.
The ruling, delivered on Friday, August 29, 2025, followed an ex parte application supported by an affidavit filed by PW L/Cpl. Sandra Mintah of the Ghana Police Service.
ASP Benjamin Baafi, who moved the application in court, explained that the disturbances erupted during the sprinkling of Kpokpoi on Tuesday, August 26, when rival youth groups from the Lenshie and Gbugblah clans clashed.
The violence left two people dead and several others injured, raising fears of further unrest.
To prevent an escalation, the court ordered that all non-traditional outdoor activities linked to the festival, scheduled for Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31, be suspended in the interest of public safety, peace, and security.
