Court discontinues prosecution in Ahmed Suale murder case

The Madina District Court has discontinued the prosecution of a suspect in the murder case of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, following a directive from the Attorney General’s Office.

Ahmed Suale, a key member of the Tiger Eye P.I. investigative team, was shot and killed in January 2019 by unknown assailants. His killing drew widespread condemnation and calls for justice, but the case has since made little progress.

The suspect, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, was arrested and charged with murder and abetment of murder in connection with the incident.

However, during Tuesday’s sitting on October 14, 2025, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfoa Bamfo, informed the court that the Attorney General had advised that the case be discontinued.

“We have been directed to discontinue the case upon the advice of the Attorney General,” she told the court.

Following the prosecution’s withdrawal, the presiding judge ordered that Daniel Owusu Koranteng be discharged.

The development is expected to reignite public debate over the state’s commitment to securing justice for Ahmed Suale, whose murder remains unsolved more than six years on.
