Court approves Cecilia Dapaah’s request for expedited hearing of cash seizure case

The High Court has approved the request by former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah for an expedited hearing of the case about the seizure of her money and the freezing of her bank accounts.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) filed an application seeking the permission of the court to continue to seize an amount of money found at the residence of Cecilia Dapaah and her husband as we as freezing her bank accounts.

Ms Dapaah subsequently filed an application pleading with the court to hear the case earlier.

According to her, the seizure of the money and the freezing of her accounts had caused and are causing her hardship, stress, and embarrassment.

The Judge on Wednesday agreed that any further delay would be inimical to the welfare of the former Sanitation Minister and her husband.

The case has therefore been moved from October 18 to tomorrow October 12.

Meanwhile, the OSP and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States of America have initiated concurrent investigations into the activities of Ms Dapaah and her associates.

The OSP in a post on ‘X’ formerly Twitter on Wednesday indicated that “These investigations primarily focus on examining their assets and financial transactions within the United States of America.”

According to the OSP, the collaborative effort is to ascertain the lawfulness of Ms Dapaah and her associates’ wealth, “both in the context of their funds transitioning from Ghana to the United States and vice versa.”
