Festival
Between May 2-8, 2022 Otumfuo attended the Memphis in May International Festival in Memphis, Tennessee, USA where he participated in the festival’s international salute to the Republic of Ghana.

The Asantehene’s visit to Memphis highlighted some of Ghana’s culture and traditions.

The Memphis in May International Festival recognized Otumfuo’s platform as King focusing on furthering peace in Ghana and developing the education, economy, and health of his people.

Gold coin goes international
A major highlight of the festival was the presentation of the Otumfuo commemorative gold coin to the city.
The presentation took place on May 6, 2022 when Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was hosted to a glittering dinner by the city authorities at the Renasant Convention Centre to mark his 72nd birthday.

Nana Otuo Siriboe was joined in the presentation by Alex Apau Dadey, Executive Chairman of the KGL Group and Board Chairman of Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori Atta, the Executive Chairman of the E ON 3 Group, an Accra-based multi-function business establishment, which was given the authorisation by the Bank of Ghana to mint the commemorative gold coin.

Blessing
In a brief comment, Charles Ewing said Memphis was blessed to receive the Otumfuo commemorative gold coin.
That was especially to as the presentation coincided with the birthday of the King.

Background
The Otumfuo commemorative gold coin, which was launched on December 12, 2021, is a fitting memorial in honour of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for the significant role he played in restoring peace to the Dagbon after decades of protracted chieftaincy crisis between members of the royal gates.

It’s also acknowledged Otumfuo’s role as a restraining influence that has manifested in almost every election cycle in Ghana. That influence, additionally, has ensured peaceful elections, culminating in seamless transitions in governments, especially when power changed hands between the two dominant political parties in Ghana.
