Bessa Simons elected MUSIGA President

Veteran highlife musician Bessa Simons was on Tuesday (10 October) elected as the new president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) after beating his sole contender Ras Caleb.

Bessa, who had been the acting MUSIGA president since Bice Osei Kuffour alias Obour resigned, polled a total of 324 votes as against Ras Caleb’s 66 valid votes cast.

Prior to Tuesday’s polls, union members disagreed with the modalities leading to the postponement of the exercise on four occasions.

Bessa Simons has pledged to work tirelessly to advance the interests of musicians across the country in an interview with Graphic Showbiz.

His tenure is expected to usher in a period of innovation and growth for the organisation and the Ghanaian music industry at large.

He highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration within MUSIGA, adding that “together, we can achieve great strides in the music industry.”
