Bawumia Pledges Welfare System for Party Faithful

Flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced his commitment to establishing a structured welfare system for party members to curb feelings of neglect and exclusion.

The pledge was made on Tuesday during a vigorous campaign tour through four constituencies in the Central Region. The former Vice President’s tour took him through the Agona East, Agona West, Gomoa Central, and Gomoa West constituencies, where he engaged with party delegates and supporters.

Reflecting on the experience, he stated that the unwavering commitment of fellow patriots he encountered had strengthened his resolve to create an institutionalised, constituency-based welfare system. “This system will recognise the efforts of patriots, identify their individual or group concerns, and effectively address these concerns to curb the recurring issue of neglect and exclusion,” Dr. Bawumia said.

Reasons
The proposed policy appears to be a direct response to long-standing grievances within political parties, where grassroots members often feel overlooked after election cycles. By institutionalising the welfare scheme, Dr. Bawumia aims to create a more sustainable and responsive support structure for the party’s base.

Unity
He called for unity ahead of the presidential primary, stating, “Let’s work together, win together and make our party and Ghana greater.”
