A leading member of the Bawumia campaign team, Sammi Awuku, has disclosed that the NPP flagbearer will announce his running mate in June.
According to him, the flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has already settled on the running mate after consultations with the appropriate stakeholders in the party.
Speaking on Onua FM in Accra on Tuesday, May 14, Mr Awuku who is also the Director -General of the Ghana Lottery Authority (NLA), therefore urged all to exercise patience as the flagbearer prepare to announce the name of his running mate next month.
No delay
Mr Awuku parried off suggestions in certain circles that , Dr. Bawumia has been slow in the selection of his running mate.
Explaining, he asserted that, looking at the time the flagbearer was elected, he is well within time to make the announcement of his running mate.
He cited as example, the year 2008, when then-candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, selected his running mate in August 2008 for that year’s elections in December. “We are very much within the timeline. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was elected barely six months ago, so we still have time. If you recall, his nomination in 2008 was done somewhere in August. So, for us in the NPP, we are very much within our timelines,” Mr. Awuku stated.
He added: “The flagbearer at this point is very clear in his mind who his running mate is going to be, and when he is ready, he is going to announce that.”
