Bawumia Commissions 10,000 YEA Trainees; Another 10,000 To Start Training

Dr Mahamadu Bawumia on Tuesday, August 27, ushered into the world of work, 10,000 young people trained under the Youth Employment Agency’s (YEA) Skills Training programme.

This latest effort by the government to provide employable skills to Ghanaian youth joins other ongoing efforts such as the Kayayei Empowerment Programme and the training and provision of start up support for MSMEs by the Ghana Enterprises Agency.

The graduands undertook a six-month training in vocational skills including hairdressing, masonry, plumbing, painting, steelworks and wielding among others.

During the training, they were paid GHc500 each every month as stipends, and at the passing out each of them was presented with start-up kits.

2nd Phase
At the passing out ceremony of the trainees in Techiman in the Bono East Region, Dr Bawumia announced that, an additional 10,000 young people will soon be enrolled in the second phase of the programme.

Dr Bawumia stated that what many people said the government cannot do has been made possible with the training of the young people. He pledges to invest massively in the YES when he wins the election and becomes the next President.

Order of The Day
Dr Bawumia said skills training is the order of the day and assured that the government will continue to invest in it.

“The NPP government is determined to equip Ghanaian youth with the requisite knowledge and skills to create opportunities and businesses for all. By the grace of God, when I become President we will train 1 million youth in digital skills,” he added.

GHartisan APP
As an incentive for the beneficiaries, the NPP flagbearer said the YEA will next month, launch the GHartisan app next month where the profiles of all trained persons under the skills development programme will be listed so as to connect them to customers across the country.
