Bawku Conflict Nearing End – Kusasis Hail Otumfuo’s Fairness in Mediation

Kusasis are hopeful that a resolution to the long-standing Bawku conflict is in sight.
This optimism follows a productive meeting held by Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, with the Kusaug Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on June 30.
The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to address the conflict between the Kusasis and Mamprusis in Bawku, which has resulted in numerous deaths and significant property damage.
Otumfuo serves as the sole mediator in this enduring dispute.
Positive outlook
Following the meeting, Maxwell Agbambilla, the lawyer for the Bawku Naba, expressed his positive outlook, stating, “Today’s engagement was very productive. We understand that this matter between the Kusasis and Mamprusis is delicate. His Majesty the Asantehene listened to both sides and presented the concerns raised by the other faction. He has taken our responses and assured us that he will relay them and return with feedback. From all indications, it appears that we are nearing a resolution to this unfortunate crisis.”
Discussions
Mr. Agbambilla noted that discussions at Manhyia covered critical aspects of the dispute, including a significant development where some chiefs from key villages in Bawku pledged their allegiance to the Bawku Naba, Asigri Abugrago Azoka II.
He commended the Asantehene for his balanced approach and urged all residents to remain calm as the dialogue continues.
